Important Update for Sri Lankan Passport Holders Travelling to Thailand
Sri Lankan travellers planning to visit Thailand should be aware of an important change to Thailand’s visa-entry arrangements, which is scheduled to take effect from 15 September 2026.
According to the latest visa regulations published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette, Sri Lankan passport holders will no longer be eligible for the current Visa-Free / Visa on Arrival entry facility from this date.
As a result, travellers entering Thailand on or after 15 September 2026 will need to obtain the appropriate Thai visa before departing from Sri Lanka.
What Is Changing?
From 15 September 2026, Sri Lankan passport holders travelling to Thailand must have the required visa approved before their departure.
Travellers should not plan to obtain a visa after arriving in Thailand. Completing the visa process in advance can help avoid potential difficulties during airline check-in or upon arrival at Thai immigration.
